POOLER, Ga. -- Barry’s No. 1-ranked team won the NCAA South/Southeast Super regional on Wednesday, shooting 284 in the final round.
The Buccaneers beat Nova Southeastern by six strokes, finishing with a three-round total of 868 at the par-72, 7,016-yard Savannah Quarters Country Club. It is Barry’s school-record seventh tournament victory of the season.
Barry’s Adam Svensson tied for seventh, shooting 73 in the final round to finish at 3-under 213. Scott Smyers placed 14th, following a 71 Wednesday and even-par 216 in the 54-hole tournament that featured 20 teams and 108 players.
Florida Southern’s Tim Crouch won the tournament with a 6-under 210. He shot 71 in the third round. Saint Leo’s Ryan Gendron was second, a stroke back. Nova Southeastern’s Santiago Gomez, Patrick Kim, South Carolina-Aiken’s Brandon Robinson-Thompson and Flagler’s Spencer Schindler tied for third at 4-under 212. Florida Tech’s Justin Kalanquin tied with Svensson for seventh.
Barry’s Mario Beltran fired a 2-under 70 in the final round -- the lowest of the day for the Buccaneers. He tied for 23rd at 221. Jared Dalga shot 71, and tied for 31st at 224. It was Dalga’s best round in the three-day event. Berry Jole tied for 41st at 226 after shooting par for his best round of the tournament.
Beltran had five birdies Wednesday. Dalga also birdied five holes, including back-to-back threes on Nos. 8 and 9. Jole equaled his teammates with five birdies, going back-to-back on Nos. 2 and 3 to open his final round. Smyers had three birdies and an eagle. He eagled the 531-yard, par-5 17th for the second time at the tournament. Svensson had two birdies Wednesday.
Barry, the defending NCAA champs, is one of seven teams from the Super Regional to qualify for the national championships. Crouch and Gendron qualified as individuals.
