WAIKOLOA, Hawaii -- Fourth-ranked Oklahoma State fired a 271 during its final round at the Amer Ari Invitational on Saturday to distance itself from the field and claim its third victory of the year in its spring opener at Waikoloa Kings' Course.
The Cowboys entered the day with a two-stroke lead at the par-72, 7,074-yard layout before carding their 17-under tally during the third round to pull away from the field. OSU finished with a 45-under total of 819 and 12 shots clear of Washington.
The victory was the Cowboys' third consecutive after winning their final two events to wrap up the fall season.
OSU sophomore Jordan Niebrugge fired a final-round 65 to move from a tie for seventh into first place. His 16-under 200 total put him a stroke ahead of USC's Jeffrey Kang and gave him his first collegiate victory.
Niebrugge birdied his second hole before making bogey at the third. After reeling off three consecutive birdies at Nos. 4, 5 and 6, he made his final bogey of the day at the seventh to turn at 2-under 34. Niebrugge opened his inward nine with four consecutive pars before carding birdies on three of his next four. He then closed with an eagle at the par-5 18th to secure medalist honors.
Redshirt freshman Wyndham Clark posted his third consecutive round in the 60s, a 69, to finish at 204 and tied for fifth place.
Senior Talor Gooch came in tied for 16th place at 207 after posting a 68, while classmate Ian Davis' 68 tied him for 20th place at 208.
Senior Kevin Dougherty closed with a 73 to finish at 219 and tied for 84th place.
• For No. 2 Georgia Tech, Seth Reeves shot a 5-under-par 67, and fellow senior Bo Andrews added a 3-under-par 69 as Georgia Tech shot 7-under-par 281 as a team and finished tied for seventh place.
• Ninth-ranked Stanford saw three players score in the red for the second day to finish tied for seventh at the Amer Ari Invitational. Patrick Rodgers (66), Cameron Wilson (70) and David Boote (71) each did the deed on Saturday.
