Drury wins Bellarmine Spring Invite
Michael earns low medalist honors, leads No. 18 Panthers to win
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- No. 18 Drury not only got a preview of the course that will be used for the NCAA Championship in a couple of months, but walked away from it on Monday afternoon with a pair of titles in the Bellarmine Spring Invite, played at the par-72 Persimmon Ridge Golf Club.
Sophomore Lauren Michael shot a 1-over-par 73 to earn low medalist honors -- beating teammate and runner-up Katrina Choate (76) by three strokes -- and Drury posted a 313 team total to win by four shots against runner-up California (Pa.) (317) in the nine-team field.
Ashland (320) finished third, Findlay (322) was fourth and Ferris State (325) was fifth.
In addition to the 1-2 finish by Michael (for her first collegiate victory) and Choate, freshman Meg Alumno had an 80 to finish in a tie for ninth. Sophomore Morgan Lamberson and senior Stephanie Rosetta each shot 84s to tie for 25th for the Lady Panthers, who continue to play without injured four-year starter and senior Aubree Vaughan (ankle).
