Dons hold four-stroke lead on Seattle, Gonzaga in third
HOLLISTER, Calif. -- After one day and the first round of play, the Saint Mary's men and San Francisco women sit atop the respective leaderboards at the 2012 West Coast Conference Golf Championship.
The Gaels shot a 14-under par 274 to build a 14-stroke lead on second-place Gonzaga (288). The Gaels posted the top-three individual scores on Monday, led by Jonathan De Los Reyes' seven-under 65. Teammates Ben Geyer and Eric Grimberg each shot a three-under 69.
Gonzaga’s Peter Gullickson also finished Monday's round in a tie for second place, posting a 69.
On the women's side, San Francisco built a four-stroke lead on second-place Seattle, with third place Gonzaga one shot out of second. USF was led in the opening round by Bethany Garton and Eyglo Oskarsdottir, who each tied for second with a three-over par.
Individually, BYU Maggie Yuan led the way in women's play during Monday's opening round with a two-over 74.
