Ninth-ranked North Carolina-Pembroke victorious at West Georgia Invitational
CARROLLTON, Ga. -- No. 9 North Carolina-Pembroke shaved 20 strokes off of its first-round score and easily out-distanced the rest of the five-team field en route to championship honors at the West Georgia Invitational on Tuesday at the par-71 5,925-yard Sunset Hills Country Club.
Meghan Moore (75-77/152) turned in a 5-over-par 77 on Tuesday to claim her seventh career medalist honors and edge out teammate Shauna Walor (77-76/153), who carded a 76 in the second round to claim her 11th career top-five finish.
Lizzie Bundy (86-74/160) shot a team-low 74 on Tuesday to grab her first career top-five finish (T-4th), while Kelly Sumner (88-79/167) and Jenn Crow (88-84/172) finished 11th and tied for 20th, respectively.
Laura Bird (78-92/170), who competed in the event as an individual, finished in the tie for 15th as well.
UNCP's two-round score of 632 (326-306/632) was 14 strokes better than second-place Lincoln Memorial and 37 strokes better than host and third-place finisher West Georgia. North Greenville and Montevallo rounded out the field in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
