Notre Dame to host NCAA regional event in 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Committee has selected the Notre Dame to serve as host of the 2015 South Bend, Indiana Regional at the Warren Golf Course on campus May 7-9, 2015.

Notre Dame is the fourth and final regional host joining the previously selected St. George, Utah site at Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club hosted by Brigham Young; the San Antonio, Texas site at Briggs Ranch Golf Club hosted by the Texas-San Antonio and the Raleigh, N.C. site at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course hosted by NC State.

“We are so pleased to have been selected as one of four regional sites for 2015,” says Irish head coach Susan Holt. “Our support staff here at Notre Dame is well-equipped to host a first class NCAA event. It is truly an honor to host many of the top women's golf programs in the country at the Warren Golf Course. We feel we have one of the best collegiate on-campus golf courses in the country, and to be able to showcase it in this way is a huge thrill for us. “

The Warren Golf Course has previously hosted the 2011 Division I Women’s Golf Central Regional Championships, two NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Regional Championships, two U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship qualifiers, two Western Mid-Amateur Championship qualifiers, five Big East Conference Championships and the 2010 U.S. Women’s Public Links Championship.

“The Warren Golf Course is a tremendous facility that will be a great challenge for our student-athletes,” Theresa Becker said, chair of the Division I Women’s Golf Committee and Associate Athletics Director at Kansas. “Notre Dame has a great history of hosting top-quality events so we know this will be a wonderful experience for everyone involved.”

Designed by the Austin, Texas-based architectural firm of Coore and Crenshaw, headed by Bill Coore and PGA Tour veteran Ben Crenshaw, the Warren Golf Course features a classic, walkable layout with narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens, similar to Irish and American courses of the late 19th and early 20th century. It already has earned numerous awards during its brief tenure, most recently having been cited in Golfweek's 2008 listing of "America's Best Courses" in which the Warren layout was tabbed as the second-best public access course in the state of Indiana. Golf Digest, GOLF Magazine and Golf & Travel Magazine also have selected the Warren Golf Course for high honors since it opened 13 years ago.
