CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Barry won the U.S. Women’s Invitational on Tuesday, hosted by Belmont Abbey.
The No. 2-ranked Buccaneers shot 302 in the lone round of the tournament on the par-72, 6,094-yard Pine Island Country Club course. The 10-team, 55-player field was reduced to one round after rain washed out Monday’s scheduled 36 holes.
Barry beat runner-up Florida Tech by five strokes. North Carolina-Pembroke (313) and Newberry (322) finished third and fourth, respectively, while Florida Southern and Erskine tied for fifth at 324.
It is the Buccaneers’ fourth tournament title of the season and second this spring.
Barry’s Nancy Vergara, Francesca Perini and Nicky Ferre tied for third after each shot 3-over 75. Florida Tech’s Johanna Larson won the individual medalist honor, shooting 1-over 73. Erskine’s Krysta Schaus was the runner-up with a 74.
Barry’s Daniela Murray, competing as an individual, and teammate Maria Paola Fiorio, tied for ninth after shooting 77. Barry’s Martina Bertuccioli shot 78 to tie for 14th.
Ferre, Vergara and Perini were all named to the all-tournament team, along with Larson and Schaus.
