The #4 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (19-8-4, 14-6-3 WCHA) continued its impressive run in the WCHA with a huge 4-3 victory over #11 North Dakota (13-11-5, 8-10-3 WCHA) before 6,101 fans at a packed National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. on Feb. 12.

The victory helped SCSU move into first place in the WCHA with 31 league points over idle Minnesota Duluth's 29 points. The victory was also a milestone as it marked coach Bob Motzko's 100th career win as head coach with the Huskies. He owns a 100-68-23 all-time record with the Huskies since the 2005-06 season.

SCSU opened the attack against North Dakota with a quick goal by sophomore defender Oliver Lauridsen (Gentofte, Denmark) at :40 of the first period. He was set up on the play by a perfect pass from junior forward Tony Mosey (Prior Lake) as the second assist was credited to sophomore Taylor Johnson (Hugo). This marked the third consecutive game that Lauridsen has scored a goal and it was his fourth marker of the 2009-10 season.

UND tied the game at 6:41 of the first period with a goal by Jake Marto. Assists were added on the play by Jason Gregoire and Corban Knight. UND pushed its lead to 2-1 at 17:22 of the first period with a power play goal by Brett Hextall. Chris VandeVelde and Marto each had assists on the play.

In the second period, SCSU junior forward Garrett Roe (Vienna, Va.) tied the contest at 2-2 with his 12th goal of the season. The power play effort for Roe was assisted by sophomore Drew LeBlanc (Hermantown) and Lasch. This was the 13th consecutive game this season that Roe has charted a point. LeBlanc is also on a roll with points in his last four games.

UND once again took command of the game at 12:48 of the second period with VandeVelde's 10th goal of the season. The lone assist on the play was charted by Knight.

Lasch helped SCSU knot the score again at 3-3, with his goal on the power play at 16:03. Johnson and LeBlanc provided the assists on the play. The goal was Lasch's team-leading 16th of the season and it was his 75th career goal at SCSU. He now has 169 career points, which includes 94 assists as a Husky and it places him 10 points away from all-time SCSU point leader Jeff Saterdalen at 179.

SCSU sophomore Travis Novak (Lethbridge, Alberta) scored what proved to be the eventual game-winner at 19:03 of the second period. Novak was breaking toward the net on the wing, and sophomore Ben Hanowski (Little Falls) made the picture-perfect feed to beat UND netminder Brad Eidsness. The second assist on the play was marked by sopomore Sam Zabkowicz (Greendale, Wis.).

On the topic of goaltending, SCSU's Dan Dunn was tested often in the game as he chalked up 43 saves in the game for the Huskies. SCSU was outshot by UND 46-26, but the Huskies did manage to go 2-4 on the power play. UND was 1-3 on the power play. Of note, Dunn now owns an 11-2-1 record this season and has not lost since a setback against Wisconsin on Nov. 21.
