DENVER, Colo. - Jimmy Hayes and Tommy Cross each scored even-strength goals and sophomore goaltender Parker Milner registered 20 saves as No. 1 Boston College earned a 3-0 non-league win over No. 6 Denver before 6,036 fans at Magness Arena.
BC, which defeated Denver 6-2 on Friday night, captured the two-game weekend sweep of the Pioneers.
Milner recorded eight saves in each of the first two periods and four in the final frame to earn his first collegiate shutout in his first appearance of the 2010-11 season. The Pittsburgh, Pa., product improved to 11-2-1 in 14 career starts.
Junior Cam Atkinson accounted for the game's final tally, converting a diving effort with his backhand into an open Pioneer net with 16.2 seconds remaining.
Hayes' goal, an unassisted tally scored just 1:28 into the contest, represented the decisive score. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound forward intercepted a Denver pass in the neutral zone, transitioned into the offensive zone and beat freshman goaltender Sam Brittain with a wrist shot.
Cross lifted the visiting Eagles to a 2-0 lead with a shot from the slot that went over the Brittain's glove hand at 8:57 of the middle period. Junior forward Paul Carey and sophomore defenseman Brian Dumoulin assisted on the goal.
The visiting Eagles killed nine Denver power plays that totaled 15 minutes, 30 seconds. BC improved its three-game season total to 23-for-23 on the penalty kill. It went scoreless in three power-play attempts of its own.
BC tallied a 33-20 edge in shots, including advantages of 13-8 and 15-4 in the first and third periods, respectively.
