DE PERE, Wis. -- UW-Eau Claire scored in each period, but it wasn't enough to overcome No. 1 St. Norbert (Wis.), as the Blugolds fell 6-3 at Cornerstone Center.
The Blugolds went toe-to-toe with St. Norbert for most of the night. After the Green Knights gained the early edge with a goal in the first two minutes of play, Kurt Weston responded with a goal at the 6:38 minute mark to tie the score for the Blugolds.
The teams continued to swap goals throughout the second and early third periods. UWEC's Jordan Singer was assisted by Jon Waggoner to make it a 2-2 game at 2:38 into the second. Following another St. Norbert tally late in the second, Isaiah Bennis notched another tying goal on a power play at 7:50 in the third.
After fighting back three times, Eau Claire couldn’t edge in front of St. Norbert as the Green Knights skated away with the victory by chipping in three more goals.
The Green Knights outshot the Blugolds 34-28. Brandon Stephenson saved 28 of St. Norbert’s shots during the 60 minutes of play. St. Norbert was also more successful on the power play, converting three of five chances. Eau Claire scored one goal in seven power play attempts.
