No. 7 Geneseo falls at Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- Plattsburgh State put together a strong second period to fend off nationally-ranked No. 7 Geneseo, 4-2, in a State University of New York Athletic Conference game Friday night. The Cardinals improve to 12-4-1 overall and 5-4-1 in conference play.
Kyle VanDermale tallied his third of the year at 3:45 of the second period to break the scoreless tie.
Kyle Kudroch found the back of the net at the 7:34 mark of the second to stretch the Plattsburgh lead to 2-0. Barry Roytman and Ryan Craig were credited with assists on the goal.
Dan Sliasis netted the eventual game-winner from Cody Adams at 15:49 of the third period.
Geneseo made it a game on the third period, scoring twice. David Arduin scored a short-handed goal at 9:25 of the third period, cutting the Cardinals’ lead to 3-1. Colin de Jersey put the Ice Knights within one on an unassisted goal at the 14:16 mark.
Ryan Craig scored an empty-net goal with 1:19 left in the game to put the game out of reach.
The Cardinals outshot Geneseo, 28-21. Cory Gershon recorded 24 saves for the Ice Knights. Plattsburgh’s Josh Leis picked up his 11th victory, making 19 stops.
Plattsburgh returns to action tomorrow night at 7 p.m. against Brockport. The Cardinals will honor the 2001 National Championship team in a pregame ceremony prior to Saturday’s game on Mike Daoust Night. Members of the team will be wearing commemorative Mike Daoust game jerseys that will be signed and auctioned off immediately following the game.
