INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee has added Brian Faison, Jim Knowlton and Tom McGinnis as the three newest members to the group. Their four-year terms will begin Sept. 1, 2013.

Faison is in his fifth year as the director of athletics at North Dakota. He will be the National Collegiate Hockey Conference representative, a conference he helped create and which will start play for the first time next season. Prior to joining UND, Faison served as special assistant to the president (2004-08) and director of athletics (1999-04) at New Mexico State. Before that, he served as the national director of development for the National Children’s Cancer Society (1995-1999). Faison gained experience in Division I administration as director of athletics at Indiana State (1988-1995), assistant athletics director for development at Louisville (1984-1988) and assistant athletics director for promotions and fund raising at Illinois State (1979-1984). He also had stints as the assistant manager for athletic public relations at Missouri (1978-1979) and assistant director for alumni activities at the Missouri (1974-1978).

Knowlton has been the athletics director for more than five years at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and will be the ECAC Hockey representative. Since coming to Troy, Knowlton has also served on numerous committees both on and off campus, including his current standing on the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Executive Committee, as well as the board of College Hockey, Inc. He was NACDA’s Division III northeast recipient of the Under Armor Athletic Director of the Year in 2011. Prior to joining Rensselaer, Knowlton served as the director of the Center for Enhanced Performance at the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. From 2003 to 2006, he served as both deputy and interim director for the athletics department at West Point. He spent his previous 26 years on active duty in the US Army and retired as a Colonel. He also previously served as chair of the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Hockey Rules Committee.

McGinnis is in his second year at the Minnesota, and will serve as the representative for the Big Ten Conference, which will begin play as a conference for the first time in 2013-14. In Minneapolis, McGinnis serves as the associate athletics director and chief financial officer. He is a member of the department’s senior management team and oversees human resources, travel and information technology in addition to serving as the administrator for the men’s and women’s ice hockey programs. Prior to his position at Minnesota, McGinnis spent 14 years in the Ohio State athletics department. McGinnis served as the Buckeyes' senior associate athletics director for administration, overseeing human resources, information technology, ice rink and equipment. McGinnis led the development and implementation of the athletic department's strategic plans and served as the championship manager for multiple NCAA and conference championships during his time with the Buckeyes.

The Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Committee is made up of one person from each hockey-playing conference and currently consists of: Rick Goeb, director of athletics, Bemidji State; Tom Nevala, senior associate athletics director, Notre Dame; Rand Pecknold, head coach, Quinnipiac; Kevin Sneddon, head coach, Vermont and Col. William Walker, deputy director of athletics, Air Force.

“We couldn’t be happier with the selection of these three individuals,” said Kristin Fasbender, NCAA associate director of championships and alliances and operations manager for the Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship. “They all bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, and will be tremendous assets to Division I men’s ice hockey.”
