Badgers upset

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Colton Parayko's blast in the second period was all Alaska-Fairbanks needed, as it began the 2014-15 season with a 1-0 upset win against No. 10 Wisconsin in the opening game of the Kendall Hockey Classic Friday night.

Parayko's goal came with 4:55 left in the second period and was the lone goal in a game that featured excellent goaltending displays at both ends of the ice. Alaska's Davis Jones stopped all 14 shots he faced, including two phenomenal saves late in the game to preserve the Nanook lead, while Wisconsin's Landon Peterson made 30 saves on 31 shots.

The victory marks the first time Alaska has ever beaten Wisconsin, as it was previously 0-7-0 against the Badgers, and was the first time Wisconsin was shut out in a season opener since 1963.

"We did a great job of controlling the play in front of Davis and he made some big saves when he had to," said captain Parayko on the performance of his goaltender.
