ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- A hat trick by No. 7 St. Cloud State's Jonny Brodzinski was enough to lead the Huskies (1-1-0, 0-0-0 National Collegiate Hockey Conference) to a 3-1 against No. 6 Colgate (1-1-0, 0-0-0 Eastern College Athletic Conference) on Saturday at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
The victory was the first of the season for the Huskies as they ended their 2014-15 opening weekend with a split against Colgate.
Brodzinski opened the game's offense with his first score in the ninth minute of the first period.
He added the game-winner at 17:43 of the first period with a power play goal on assists from Joey Benik and Kalle Kossila.
Both teams went scoreless in the second period before Brodzinski completed the Huskies' scoring with his third goal of the night at 15:02 of the third period. Colgate broke the shutout late in the contest with a goal at 17:12 by Tyson Spink with assists from Andrew Black and Spiro Goulakos.
The hat trick was Brodzinski's second of his career. Brodzinski now has 46 goals and 78 points in 82 games played.
Charlie Lindgren carded 23 saves for the Huskies while Colgate's Charlie Finn recorded 22 saves in the contest. On the power play SCSU was 1-4 and Colgate was 1-5 in the game.
