Barron nets winner in third OT for 4-3 win

HAMDEN, Conn. -- Alex Barron scored six minutes and 32 seconds into the third overtime as No. 11 Quinnipiac defeated Union 4-3 in the first game of their ECAC Hockey Tournament quarterfinals on Friday night.

The game ended when Dan Federico sent the puck on net where Barron tipped it from the slot past Union goalie Colin Stevens.

Quinnipiac (22-9-4) trailed 3-1 late in the third before Sam Anas scored twice in less than minute to force overtime.

Devon Toews had two assists while Tim Clifton scored Quinnipiac's first goal.

In net, Quinnipiac's Michael Garteig recorded 31 saves.

The game, which lasted 106:32, is the 12th longest game in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey history.

An early goal from Minnesota Duluth wasn't enough for the Bulldogs, as Wisconsin was able to complete the sweep of the defending champs Saturday.
