St. Cloud State gains No. 1 ranking in latest polls

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team has gained the number one spot in both NCAA Division I national polls this week. The Huskies had previously been ranked number two in the nation in last week's polls before a 2-2 tie and 3-1 win over North Dakota on Dec. 8-9 in St. Cloud, Minn.

St. Cloud State currently owns a 12-2-1 overall record and a 7-2-1 record in the always rugged National Collegiate Hockey Conference. The Huskies move to the number one spot in the and USA TODAY/USA Hockey polls ahead of number two ranked Denver and number three ranked Notre Dame.

This marks SCSU's record time in the number one spot of the national polls. The last time the Huskies earned a number one national ranking was on Nov. 6, 2017.

Ethen Frank became the first Western Michigan Hockey player to score four goals in a game since 2006 as the 13th-ranked Broncos downed No. 2 St. Cloud State, 6-2, at Lawson Ice Arena on Friday.
