College hockey: Mercyhurst's Jack Riley leads players of the week after recording hat trick in win over Army
The NCAA Stars of the Week were led by a player who now has bragging rights over his father after posting his first career hat trick.
1. Jack Riley, Mercyhurst
The senior forward led the Lakers to a sweep of Army West Point, which just happens to be coached by his Dad, Brian Riley. On Friday, he had a goal and an assist in a 2-2 tie. On Saturday, the West Point, NY native had four points on three goals, including the game-winner, and an assist in a 6-1 victory over the Black Knights. For the weekend he had six points on four goals and two assists, while also tallying 11 shots on goal and a +4 rating. He now has 24 points on 14 goals and 10 assists on the season.
2. Nick Halloran, Colorado College
The Draper, Utah native had a big weekend for the Tigers in NCHC action. In Friday’s 6-3 victory over Miami he had three assists. A day later the sophomore forward scored two goals in the opening three minutes of the game as they tied the RedHawks at four goals each. He finished the weekend with five points on two goals and three assists in addition to six shots on goal and a +3 rating. He is the team’s leading scorer on the season with 39 points on 16 goals and 23 assists.
3. Arthur Brey, St. Lawrence
The junior netminder led the Saints to their first two conference victories of the season over the weekend. On Friday against Brown, he made 37 saves as St. Lawrence held on for a 3-2 victory. On Saturday, he posted his first career shutout, making 53 saves in a 1-0 blanking of Yale. For the weekend, the Yorba Linda, California native posted a .978 save percentage and a 1.00 goals-against average.
