Jan. 17, 2009
Mankato Minn. - The Minnesota State women’s hockey team lost 5-0 to #3 Minnesota Duluth in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association contest played at All Seasons Arena in front of 218 fans. MSU is now winless in its last 11 games, dating back to Nov. 14.
The Mavericks skated with the Bulldogs in the first period and only had a one-goal deficit after one period of play.
“We took the ice tonight ready to compete and we showed in the first period what we are capable of,” said interim co-head coach Mandy Krause-Rideout. “Even though we continue to improve each night, we still lack the confidence to play our best for 60 minutes.”
The Mavericks gave-up a break-a-way goal at 00:34 and a one-timer goal at 3:54 of the second period and all of a sudden trailed 3-0. UMD would add a power play goal in the second and late in the third to take the game by a final score of 5-0.
MSU freshman goaltender Alli Altmann (Eagan, Minn.) suffered her eighth loss of the season, making 21 saves.
MSU (6-13-2 overall, 3-12-2 WCHA) went 0-6 on the power play, as UMD went 2-5.
MSU and the Bulldogs battle in the series finale tomorrow at 3:07 p.m.
