STORRS, Conn. - The Terriers garnered goals from four different players, as No. 3 Boston University defeated Connecticut, 4-1, at Freitas Ice Forum on Saturday evening. The Terriers (21-2-3, 11-1-3 HEA) won their 13th consecutive game and swept the season series with the Huskies.

Senior Lauren Cherewyk and sophomore Taylor Holze scored first-period goals, while juniors Kasey Boucher and Jenelle Kohanchuk added markers in the third frame to give BU a 4-0 lead. UConn ended the shutout bid with a goal late in stanza. Boucher (1g, 1a) and senior Jillian Kirchner (2a) recorded multi-point games.

BU was 2-for-4 on the power play, while UConn went 0-for-3 with the player advantage. The Terriers outshot the Huskies by a 25-19 margin. Freshman goaltender Kerrin Sperry made 18 saves to improve to 15-0-2, and Connecticut netminder Alexandra Garcia turned aside 21 shots as the Huskies fell to 12-15-1 (8-6-1 HEA).

While on the power play, Cherewyk gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead at 8:47 of the first period. Cherewyk, who was stationed in the left circle, had sophomore Jill Cardella’s pass direct off both her stick and skate before sliding to the back of the net. Kirchner also recorded an assist on the play.

BU doubled its advantage when Holze scored with 3:17 left in the frame. Junior Jenn Wakefield received a pass from Boucher in the neutral zone and avoided a Connecticut defenseman as she chipped the puck to herself off the boards. Wakefield then drove to the net before sending a cross-crease pass to Holze, who buried the puck past Garcia.

In a scoreless second period, Wakefield generated the frame’s best scoring chance with under a minute to play. After BU was called for too many players on the ice, Wakefield controlled the puck off the ensuing faceoff and raced up the ice for a breakaway. She made a move to her backhand but Garcia stopped the attempt.

The Terriers added two goals in the final stanza to take a 4-0 lead. Junior Carly Warren slid the puck to Kirchner near the goal line, where she sent a diagonal pass to Boucher at the blue line. The Lewiston, Maine, native then sent a shot along the ice that beat Garcia low to the far side for a power-play goal at 4:34.

With 6:48 remaining in the game, Kohanchuk extended the BU lead when she grabbed the loose puck and sent it over Garcia’s blocker. Graduate student Catherine Ward and freshman Marie-Philip Poulin collected assists on the play.

Connecticut senior Jennifer Chaisson scored with 3:54 left in the contest to account for the 4-1 final. Freshman Jenna Welch and senior Brittany Murphy garnered assists on the goal.

BU will return to action next week with two games against New Hampshire. The Terriers will host the Wildcats on Thursday (Feb. 3) at 7 p.m. and will then travel to Durham, N.H., on Saturday (Feb. 5) for a 2 p.m. puck drop.
