No. 1 Minnesota 4, Bemidji State 3
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Sophomore Hannah Brandt scored the game-winning goal with 7:19 remaining in the third period to break a 3-3 tie and give Minnesota a 4-3 win and a series sweep against Bemidji State at the Sanford Center on Saturday evening.
Brandt led the Gophers with three points on two goals and one assist, and junior Rachael Bona had one goal and one assist as the Gophers earned their NCAA-record 57th consecutive win.
Minnesota (8-0-0, 6-0-0 WCHA) and Bemidji State (3-4-1, 0-2-0 WCHA) were tied three times in the game, and BSU led 2-1 in the first. The Gophers outshot the Beavers, 31-21, after being outshot 11-7 in the opening frame.
Minnesota took an early 1-0 lead as Brandt scored her second goal of the season 29 seconds into the game. She beat BSU goaltender Brittni Mowat glove side and sent the puck just under the crossbar. However, Bemidji State took a 2-1 lead with goals by Jenessa Phillipczyk at 2:47 and Lauren Miller at 15:04 in the first period. Senior Kelly Terry scored with eight seconds remaining in the opening frame to send the teams into the first intermission tied 2-2.
Bona scored her team-leading sixth goal of the season at the 3:30 mark of the second period to give the Gophers the 3-2 lead, but the Beavers responded early in the third. Hanna Moher tied the game at 3-3 at the 4:08 mark of the third period before Brandt tallied the game winner. Senior Baylee Gillanders and Bona picked up assists, and the Gophers hung on for the victory.
Sophomore goaltender Amanda Leveille made 18 saves for the Gophers, while Mowat stopped 27 pucks for the Beavers.
No. 2 Wisconsin 4, Lindenwood 1
MADISON, Wis. -- Playing without one of its senior leaders, Wisconsinâs underclassmen stepped up to finish off a home sweep of Lindenwood with a 4-1 win on Saturday afternoon.
With senior forward Madison Packer held out of the game due to injury, the Badgersâ (6-2-0, 4-2-0) group of freshmen and sophomores delivered nine points (four goals and five assists), led by forwards Sarah Nurse and Sydney McKibbon, who chipped in three points a piece.
Wisconsin wasted no time getting off on the right foot against Lindenwood (0-9-1) as Nurse gave the Badgers a 1-0 lead â a lead they would never relinquish â just under two minutes into the game with a twisted wrister from the hash marks that beat Lady Lions goalie Nicole Hensley high glove side.
Freshman defender Mellissa Channell followed that up with her second goal of the weekend on a power play later in the period on a shot from the point to give UW a 2-0 lead at the first intermission.
After Caitlyn Post got Lindenwood on the board in the second period to cut Wisconsinâs lead to one, the Badgers extinguished any hope for a Lady Lions comeback with a pair of tallies in the third period to put the game away for good.
Sophomore defender Courtney Burke scored on the power play with seven and a half minutes to play before sophomore forward Kaitlyn Harding netted her first-career goal five minutes later to close out the win for Wisconsin.
The Badgers were backstopped by another solid performance from frosh goaltender Ann-RenĂŠe Desbiens, who turned away a career-high 22 shots to secure the win, while Hensley made 39 saves in taking the loss.
No. 3 Cornell 6, St. Lawrence 4
ITHACA, N.Y. -- After trailing for the first time this season, Cornell got goals from five different players, and three on the power play to beat St. Lawrence 6-4 and sweep its first ECAC weekend.
Senior co-captain Jessica Campbell scored twice and Jillian Saulnier, Emily Fulton, Alyssa Gagliardi and Kelly Murray each added a tally, as 10 players contributed on the score sheet for the Big Red, which outshot St. Lawrence 45-25 in the contest.
The win is the 150th of head coach Doug Derraugh's tenure and helped Cornell to its fifth consecutive sweep of an ECAC opening weekend, as the team has took the first two conference games every season since 2009-'10.
The Big Red improves to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in ECAC, while the Saints fall to 2-6 and 1-1 against conference opponents.
No. 5 Clarkson 2, Colgate 0
HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Senior Erica Howe was called upon to make 11 saves in a strong effort by Clarkson as the Golden Knights broke out of a three-game winless skid by shutting out Colgate 2-0 at Starr Rink in Hamilton on Saturday afternoon to salvage a split in ECAC action in Central NY during the weekend.
Howe needed to make just two saves in the first period, added four more in the second stanza and finished with five stops in the final frame to earn her second shutout of the season and 17th career whitewash. The Knights outshot Colgate (2-6) 46-11 en route to handing the Raiders their second consecutive shutout on the weekend. On Friday, Colgate lost at home to St. Lawrence 3-0.
Senior Jamie Lee Rattray scored the only goal the Knights would need at 8:11 of the first period. Rattray finished off assists from classmates Britney Styner and Vanessa Gagnon for her second goal of the weekend and fifth of the season.
Clarkson continued to pressure in the second period, but despite a 20-to-4 shot advantage in the stanza, still held just a one-goal lead entering the third.
Sophomore Shannon MacAulay gave the Knights some breathing room with her third goal of the year at 3:58 of the final period. Seniors Vanessa Plante and Carly Mercer assisted.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- Michelle Karvinen and Susanna Tapani both recorded three-point games to help North Dakota blaze past St. Cloud St. 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
Freshman goaltender Lexie Shaw made her first collegiate start in net, making 22 stops for her first win.
Karvinen and Meghan Dufault both scored short-handed goals, the first for UND of the season. Karvinen then added a power-play goal, recording back-to-back two-goal games.
Karvinen opened the scoring with less than one second remaining in the first period, after gaining a breakaway on the penalty kill.
After the Huskies tied the game on the power play to start the second period, Josefine Jakobsen answered back for UND less than a minute later. Halfway through the second period Karvinen added the power-play tally, redirecting a shot from the point by Tanja Eisenschmid.
With less than three minutes in the second period, Andrea Dalen stole the puck in the offensive zone while on the penalty kill and dished a pass to a wide open Dufault. Dufault then walked in on SCSU goalie Julie Friend, and netted a short-handed goal while being tripped by Friend on the play.
Just a minute later, Kayla Gardner batted at a loose puck during a scramble in front of the Huskiesâ net, and the puck squeaked through Friendâs five hole for Gardnerâs first collegiate goal.
Later in the third period, Susanna Tapani capped off her two-assist effort with a goal of her own while on the power play.
No. 7 Harvard 4, Princeton 0
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Sophomore goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer denied a career-high 44 shots en route to Harvard's 4-0 victory against ECAC and Ivy League adversary Princeton (1-1-0, 1-1-0 ECAC) at the Bright-Landry Hockey Center on Saturday afternoon. Though Maschmeyer and crew shone defensively, Crimson (2-0-0, 2-0-0 ECAC) got help on the attack from Hillary Crowe with her pair of goals.
Perhaps the greatest strength for Harvard on the afternoon was its power play. The Crimson killed seven Tiger power plays, while converting three of four opportunities with the advantage. Through the first two contests, Harvard has connected on 62.5 percent of its power plays (5-8), while racking up a perfect 100 percent penalty kill average (11-11)
Samantha Reber struck first for the Crimson, notching the first of Harvard's three power-play goals at the 9:50 mark. Reber slammed one home, with Crowe there on the assist to put the home team up 1-0 midway through the first stanza. After the Tigers narrowly escaped another barrage of Crimson pucks, Sarah Edney found the back of the net at 18:47 for Harvard's second tally after Mary Parker placed it well for the junior blue liner.
More back-and-forth play ensued in the second period until Crowe capitalized on yet another skater advantage, finding the back of the net with the help of Mastel and Reber to give Harvard a comfortable 3-0 lead in the waning minutes of the second.
Both sides traded blows as the third period progressed, but Crowe broke the silence, flipping a shot over Kimberly Newell's shoulder on a breakaway. Miye D'Oench and Natasha Rachlin, who recorded her first career point with the helper, moved the puck nicely to set up Crowe's second tally, third in two games.

In third period, the Lakers offense ignited with four goals from four different players. Sophomore Maggie Rothgery started the scoring at the 2:59 mark of the final period. Rothgery scored after a scramble in front of the Maine net with seniors Kaleigh Chippy and Christine Bestland starting that offensive rush.
Chippy then tallied a goal of her own this time led by Rothgery at the 9:02 mark. Donohue passed the puck through to Rothgery at the goalies crease. Rothgery then attempted a shot which was blocked to Kaleigh Chippy who stuffed the puck up behind Treacy's glove, making the score 3-0.
Donohue scored just two minutes later to tally her first collegiate goal as a Mercyhurst Laker before sophomore Emily Janiga completed the scoring at the 15:52. Sophomore Jaclyn Arbour, Cicero and Bestland all added assists.
No. 9 Quinnipiac 4, Dartmouth 2
HANOVER, N.H. -- In a back-and-forth affair between Quinnipiac and Dartmouth, the Bobcats earned a hard-fought 4-2 victory from Thompson Arena on Saturday.
The Bobcat defensive unit killed off a Dartmouth power play with less than three minutes remaining to clinch the victory while senior Kelly Babstock (two goals, one assist) supplied the scoring for Quinnipiac in its first ECAC win of the season. The road team improves to 6-1-1 (1-1 ECAC) while Dartmouth remains winless at 0-3 (0-2 ECAC).
Babstock lifted the team with three points on the afternoon to bump her team-leading total up to 13 (six goals, seven assists) on the season. Senior Amanda Colin added an empty-netter with less than three seconds remaining to provide the team with all the insurance it needed.
