CORTLAND, N.Y. Juniors Chris Balash (Auburn) and Bryan Adams (Schenectady/Guilderland)each scored three goals as fifth-ranked Nazareth defeated second-ranked Cortland, 14-7, in an NCAA Division III tournament quarterfinal matchup. Junior Matt O'Connell (Camillus/West Genesee) added two goals and junior goalie Ben Gaebel (Deferiet/Carthage) matched his career high with 16 saves.

Balash scored just 14 seconds into the game, but Hughes responded 36 seconds later to tie the game. The Golden Flyers, however, scored the next three goals an extra-man tally by junior Greg Kanellis (Cortland) and scored by Coon and Hotaling to take a 4-1 lead. Hughes' goal with six seconds left in the period cut the deficit to 4-2.

Nazareth led 6-3 at halftime and put the game away by outscoring the Red Dragons 6-1 in the third quarter. Balash scored twice in the run and assisted on a Coon goal with 12 seconds left in the quarter. Cortland made a brief run in the fourth as goals by Hughes, freshman Adam Hyde (West Seneca/West Seneca East) and O'Connell drew the Red Dragons with 12-7 with 8:12 left.
