No. 1-ranked C.W. Post seven goals in the second half and held off Northern Blvd. rival New York Institute of Technology for a 13-11 win in East Coast Conference men’s lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at President’s Stadium.

C.W. Post improves to 10-0 overall and 5-0 in ECC action while NYIT falls to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in conference action.
Junior attacker Doug Hoch (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) registered a hat trick, including a go-ahead goal in the third quarter that put the Pioneers ahead, 8-7.

C.W. Post scored the game’s first goal at 11:46 in the first quarter when junior midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) fired a shot into the back of the net on a pass from sophomore attacker Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.).

The Bears evened the score 34 seconds later when junior attacker Ryan Amengual (West Babylon, N.Y.) scored an unassisted goal.

The Pioneers added two more goals in the quarter from senior midfielder Joe Meo (West Sayville, N.Y.) and junior midfielder James Johnston (Farmingville, N.Y.). NYIT climbed back and tied the score with back-to-back goals from senior attacker Mike Palmer (Westbury, N.Y.) and senior midfielder Kevin Hennessey (West Babylon, N.Y.).

The Pioneers got help in the second quarter with a pair of goals from junior midfielder Keith Rodriguez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) and Hoch’s first goal in the game.

NYIT kept pace and added three of its own to knot the score 6-6 at the half.

The Bears opened the third quarter with a man-up goal from senior attacker Austin Carino (Huntington, N.Y.) at 14:16. The Pioneers responded three straight goals, the first at 11:10 from junior attacker Nick Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.) on a pass from Messina. Hoch and junior defender John Wood (Marblehead, Mass.) added two more with assists credited to Rodriguez. C.W. Post led, 9-7 at the end of the third quarter.

NYIT continued to bear down on the Pioneers and scored two goals less than minute apart from each other in the fourth quarter, beginning with a goal from Carino at 13:32 and another from senior midfielder Bryan Gil (Holbrook, N.Y.).

C.W. Post broke away with two more goals scored by Coric and Messina to put the Pioneers back up, 11-9.

NYIT still had life and cut the lead to 12-11 after Gil scored his third goal of the game with 2:17 left to play. But C.W. Post closed things out when Meo tallied the game’s final goal with 18 seconds left to spare in regulation.

Coric, Rodriguez, Meo and Messina all finished the game with two goals apiece while Rodriguez tacked on two assists.
Junior goalkeeper Dan Orlando (South Hempstead, N.Y.) was credited with six saves in goal.

Gil led the way for the Bears with three goals while senior attacker Matt Sullivan (West Islip, N.Y.) had four assists in the game. Carino and Palmer each had two goals scored.

Sophomore goalkeeper William McGee (Rocky Point, N.Y.) made 16 stops in goal for the Bears.

C.W. Post returns to action on Saturday, April 10 when it hosts ECC foe Dowling College at 12 p.m.
