Tufts will open the season as the No. 1 team in the nation as it was selected to the top spot in the Lacrosse Magazine Division III preseason poll. The defending NCAA champion Jumbos will feature preseason player of the year DJ Hessler, the most outstanding player in last year's title game. He finished with 91 points last year to also earn NESCAC Player-of-the-Year honors.

Along with Tufts, Cortland, Salisbury, Stevenson and Middlebury were in the top five.

Third-ranked Salisbury has a schedule that features games against four teams ranked in the preseason top 20, including matchups with No. 4 Stevenson, No. 7 Gettysburg, No. 8 Roanoke and No. 13 Lynchburg. Junior Sam Bradman, the reigning Division III Midfielder of the Year and first-team All-American, led the team in points in 2010, finishing with 86 points on 28 assists and a team-high 58 goals.
