DURHAM, N.C.—Fifteen different players scored a goal and 20 different Blue Devils notched a point as 10th-ranked Duke defeated visiting Presbyterian 18-6 in non-conference men’s lacrosse action this evening at Koskinen Stadium. Redshirt senior Jesse Fehr led all players with a game-high four points with three goals and an assist.

“The neat thing about tonight was that everybody got to play,” head coach John Danowski said. “I thought that we played the right way and I’m happy with the guys tonight. We had 15 different guys score goals and that just tells you that we were sharing the ball and playing Duke lacrosse. I can’t say I’ve ever had 15 different guys score a goal.”

Senior Zach Howell added two scores for Duke (9-4), while freshman Josh Dionne registered a goal and two assists. Junior Andrew Vekstein and freshmen Luke Duprey and Henry Lobb each notched their first goals in a Blue Devil uniform. Vekstein finished with a goal and an assist.

Presbyterian was led by Andrew Athens with two goals and a helper, while Bryden Pelletier and Patrick Foy had a goal and an assist apiece.

The Blue Devils held the Blue Hose to just two goals in the first half, keeping Presbyterian off the scoreboard for a stretch of 17:33 to take a 10-2 lead into the locker room. Overall, Duke forced Presbyterian into 25 turnovers and 26 shots. Junior Ben Belmont paced the Duke defense with four caused turnovers and four ground balls.

Duke jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first quarters with all five goals coming from the sticks of different players. The balanced attacked continued in the second quarter as the Blue Devils added five more, including Duprey and Lobb’s first collegiate scores, to lead by eight at the break.

Senior Stephen Coyle started the scoring in the third quarter and Duke added two more to make it a 13-2 score before Athens got on the board with an unassisted goal midway through the quarter. The goal by Athens stopped a scoreless stretch of 25:30, the third longest by a Duke opponent this season.

Fehr scored twice and senior Kevin Young dropped in his first goal of the season for Duke in the fourth quarter to round out the Blue Devils scoring. Foy and Pelletier sandwiched a goal apiece between Duke’s three tallies to give the Blue Hose six for the game.

Duke held a 45-26 advantage in shots and won the ground ball battle 46-25. The Blue Devils won 16-of-28 faceoffs with freshman Brendan Fowler going 9-of-14 at the X. In goal, seniors Mike Rock and Christopher Shannon shared time. Rock earned the start and the win, making three saves. Shannon finished with four stops. Jon Athens finished with nine saves in 45 minutes of action, while Joseph Fiorucci had two saves in the fourth quarter.
