Spillane scores career high three goals to lead Blue Devils
JACKSONVILLE, Fla.-- Senior Sam Spillane registered a career-high three goals to lead the seventh-ranked Blue Devils to a 10-6 victory at Jacksonville in the regular-season finale. Sophomore goaltender Dan Wigrizer anchored the defense with 14 saves. The six goals are the second-fewest Duke has allowed this season.
Duke closes out the regular season with a 12-5 overall record, marking the sixth consecutive season the Blue Devils have garnered at least 12 victories. Duke now will await word on a berth in the NCAA Tournament with the bracket announcement set for May 8.

The Blue Devils wasted little time in evening score as sophomore David Lawson connected 49 seconds later to make it a 1-1 game. Wolf provided the assist. That goal sparked the 7-0 run as sophomore Josh Offit and Spillane got in on the action and put the Blue Devils in front 3-1 after 15 minutes of action.
Behind Duke's success at the faceoff X, the Blue Devils continued to control time of possession in the second frame. Offit netted his second goal of the contest to start the second period, while Tom Rynn and Wolf both picked up goals that sent Duke into halftime with a 6-1 lead.
Wigrizer had eight saves in the first half as Duke held the Dolphins to just one goal for the final 21:55 of the first half. Jacksonville managed just four shots in the second quarter and won one faceoff.

Holding a five-goal advantage heading into the final quarter, Duke had its lead cut to three after the Dolphins finished back-to-back goals midway through the stanza. The Blue Devil defense held off Jacksonville's attempt at a late comeback and Spillane added one more goal to ice the four-goal win for the Blue Devils.
Duke outshot Jacksonville 46-42 and won the ground ball battle 48-42. The Blue Devils won 12-of-19 restarts with Brendan Fowler winning 6-of-10.
