ERIE, Pa. -- Top-ranked Mercyhurst defeated No. 8 Seton Hill 19-5 Sunday afternoon. Kyle Kallay scored five goals in the East Coast Conference (ECC) match at Tullio Field.

Both teams began the game showing off explosive attacks. Kallay scored twice in the first 1:37 of the first quarter to give Hurst an early edge. Matt Delmonico and Greg Chaples responded with goals 54 seconds apart to even the score at two. The Lakers then scored the next 16 goals of the match.

Brady Heseltine got the run started and then Mitch McAvoy won a face-off and sprinted straight in for goal. Heseltine scored again, followed by Brian Scheetz and James Chayka finding the back of the net. Scheetz assisted Brandon Thomson on a goal and then Kally recorded a hat trick at the 8:46 mark of the second quarter to make it 9-2.

Jake McAndrew scored two goals sandwiched around a Heseltine score to go into halftime with a 12-2 advantage. The second half was more of the same, with Deven Alves and Matt Hummel getting in on the action. Kallay scored twice more, while Hummel and Phil Johnson added tallies.

Seton Hill scored two goals as time ran down and then Chris Dale capped the scoring with under two minutes left in the fourth.

Hurst outshot the Griffins, 43-23, and collected 36 groundballs to 18 for the visitors. The hosts won 17-27 face-offs and converted 4-11 extra man opportunities.

Kallay totaled five goals, while Heseltine had three. McAndrew and Hummel each had two scores. McAvoy went 11-15 on face-off tries and grabbed six groundballs. Michael Grace made seven saves in net, as Josh Kimm and Tyler Nash both saw time between the pipes.
