Colorado Mesa rallies to beat Dominican (Calif.) 9-8

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- Colorado Mesa scored the final three goals to earn a come-from-behind 9-8 win against Dominican (Calif.) in Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association action Sunday.

The two teams traded goals in the first quarter, but the Penguins scored four in a row to end the half leading 6-3.

The Mavericks scored a pair of goals in the third quarter to cut the lead to 7-4.

Michael Beimford opened the fourth quarter with a CMU goal, but Dalton Copeland added one for DU.

David Solomon scored the first of three goals for CMU at 5:20. Beimford scored the game-tying goal 13 seconds later and the game-winner with 3:12 remaining.

Beimford finished with a game-high five points (three goals, two assists) for the Mavericks. Solomon and Daniel Caddoo each scored two goals.

Both teams finished with 31 shots.

CMU goalie Brad Brandenburg made 13 saves.

CMU improved to 6-2 and 4-0.
