Colgate clinches share of Patriot League crown

WEST POINT, N.Y. -- Colgate didn't quite get the Friday night trifecta they needed, but the Raiders did their part and picked up a pretty nice consolation prize: a Patriot League regular season championship.

Colgate climbed into a first-place tie with Navy thanks to a stiffling 8-5 victory against No. 18 Army here at historic Michie Stadium. It's just the third regular season crown in Raider men's lacross history and the first since 2012.

The Raiders become the No. 2 seed in next week's Patriot League tournament by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Midshipmen. But it's quite the plumb draw as Colgate sits out Tuesday's quarterfinal round and can concentrate on Friday's semifinals.

Ryan Walsh scored four goals and assisted on two of the three goals scored by Cameron Williams. Matt Clarkson added the eighth tally as Colgate won its fourth consecutive game. The Raiders finished the regular 8-4 overall and 6-2 in the Patriot League.
