College lacrosse: Penn State Nittany Lions are the men's team of the week

The Nittany Lions have got to feel good after snapping defending champion Denver's win streak.

Penn State ended Denver’s 20-game winning streak that dated back more than a calendar year in Saturday’s 15-10 win at the Patriot Cup in Dallas.

The Nittany Lions toppled the Pioneers from their top-ranked perch on the heels of hat tricks by junior Dan Craig and sophomore Ryan Keenan. Five others added two goals apiece.

Penn State trailed 3-1 in the first quarter, but responded with two 3-0 runs before halftime and won all six third-quarter faceoffs to seal the victory.

The upset healed the sting of a two-goal loss to UMass at home just one week earlier.

"I think there are two sides to this,” Penn State head coach Jeff Tambroni said, “number one is just being very proud of the way our guys prepared coming out of last week's disappointing loss. Just preparing the way they did showed great resiliency this week and great discipline throughout the course of today.

“But there is another side of perspective to this and that's our guys and our team needs to keep coming out of this, it was a week ago we lost one game and now we're coming off a very exciting win."

Penn State will next visit Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, Sunday, April 3.
