Washington and Lee 11, Amherst 9

Salisbury, Md. -- Sophomore Mallory Lobisser (Bainbridge Island, WA/Lakeside) led No.13-ranked Washington and Lee University (15-3) with three goals as the Generals earned their first-ever NCAA tournament victory Saturday with an 11-9 win over No.4 Amherst (12-4) in the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Regional Semifinal at the SU Athletics Complex.

The Generals will now face No.1-ranked Salisbury University in the NCAA Salisbury Regional Final Sunday at 1 p.m., with the winner moving on the Final Four in Ewing, NJ on May 21-22.

The Generals jumped to an early 4-0 lead with 17:51 on the clock, but the Amherst offense whittled the four-goal lead to just one heading into the final half. At 27:40 of the second half the Jeffs tied the Generals, 6-6. In a back-and-forth contest, Washington and Lee connected on 6-of-12 shots in the second half to close out Amherst in the final minutes.

Washington and Lee goalie Sarah Tilbor (West Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) improved to 15-3 on the season, while also picking up 14 saves. Amherst's goalie Liv D'Ambrosio (Farmington, CT/Loomis Chaffee) falls to 12-4. D'Ambrosio recorded eight saves in goal.

Rounding out the leading scorers for Washington and Lee were: Lobisser (3g), junior Amanda Strickler (Lexington, VA/Rockbridge County) (2g) and junior Rachel Wallick (Phoenix, MD/Notre Dame Prep) (2g).

Senior Ashley Harmeling (North Reading, MA/Harvard) led Amherst with four goals, while junior Scotty Hanley (Baltimore, MD/Hereford) and freshman Maddie Hoeg (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) each added two goals apiece.
