CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – West Chester University’s women’s lacrosse team enters the 2009 campaign as the top-ranked team in Division II according to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Association preseason poll, which was released earlier this week.

West Chester is the defending national champion from a year ago, defeating C.W. Post by a score of 13-12 in the championship game in Houston, Texas. The Golden Rams lose just one starter from last year’s squad as they look to capture the school’s third national crown in the last eight years.

The PSAC leads all conferences with four schools in the Top 10, lead by top-ranked West Chester. 2008 semifinalist Lock Haven comes in at No. 5 (tied), while conference rookies Mercyhurst (No. 7) and Gannon (No. 9) are also ranked.

In addition to West Chester’s tough conference slate, the Golden Rams will take on No. 5 Stonehill on April 18 at Vonnie Gros Field, running the number of ranked opponents which appear on West Chester’s schedule to four.

The Golden Rams open the 2009 campaign on Wednesday, March 4 in Hilton Head, S.C. against PSAC West foe Slippery Rock.
