NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (April 11, 2009) – Senior attacker Jaclyn Napoli (West Islip, N.Y.) netted five goals and assisted on four as No. 2 C.W. Post eased past Merrimack College, 22-5, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women’s lacrosse contest.
C.W. Post improves to 9-1 overall while Merrimack slips to 2-6 overall.
The Pioneers outshot the Warriors, 35-31, and held a 22-20 advantage in ground balls. C.W. Post was 3-for-3 in free position shots on goal.
Napoli scored the game’s first goal at 28:14 on a pass from sophomore attacker Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.). Napoli assisted on the Pioneers’ second goal scored by senior midfielder Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) at 22:04. Napoli followed up with her second goal at 20:28 and freshman midfielder Chelsea Donaldson (Bay Shore, N.Y.) added a goal on a free position shot at 19:53 to give C.W. Post a 4-0 lead.
Merrimack scored a pair of goals from Liz Lyons and Lauren Leddy before Hogan scored three straight followed by goals from junior attacker Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Napoli.
Hogan scored her fifth goal with 2:08 and freshman Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) tallied her first goal to give C.W. Post a 11-4 lead at the half.
The Pioneers’ offense continued in the second half as the visitors scored the first 11 goals of the half as senior midfielder Samantha Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored three goals during the run.
Sophomore Sam Lyons (Holbrook, N.Y.) made 15 saves, including 10 in the first half.
Hogan finished the game with six goals and two assists while Passafiume netted three goals and added five assists toward the winning cause.
C.W. Post will host conference rival Dowling College April 15 at 4 p.m. on Hickox Field.
