SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- No. 20 Notre Dame battled to defeat No. 6 Stanford 17-14 on Sunday. The Cardinal drop to 0-3 as it attempts to navigate its difficult early schedule.

For a second consecutive game, the Cardinal fell behind early and despite some renewed energy could not make up the difference. Notre Dame started fast and led 7-2 early on.

Stanford responded, including two goals apiece from Anna Kim and Emilie Boeri, but trailed 12-7 at half.

The Irish outshot the Cardinal 23-17 for the half and only 10 saves from Lyndsey Munoz even kept the game that close.

Stanford responded with a better second half, winning 10 of 13 draw controls and outshooting the Irish 16-12. Howevever, Stanford could not get close enough to make it too interesting, losing 17-14.

Boeri completed her hat trick to lead the Cardinal offense, while Munoz made a career-high 17 saves.
