CLINTON, N.Y. -- Hamilton ended its season with its best performance of the year, routing visiting Ithaca 15-8 Tuesday evening at Steuben Field. The Bombers were the ninth nationally ranked opponent on Hamilton’s schedule. The Continentals posted their highest scoring total of the season and held the Bombers – who saw their nine-game winning streak snapped – to their lowest output of the spring.
Hamilton (6-8) ran off nine consecutive goals in the first half and held Ithaca scoreless for a span of nearly 24 minutes, turning an early 4-1 deficit into a 10-1 halftime advantage. The Continentals’ 10 first-half goals were more than the Bombers had allowed in any of their previous six games.
Lauren Brady and Katie D’Antonio both scored twice in Hamilton’s decisive 9-1 stretch. Brady scored on consecutive possessions to pull the Continentals even and D’Antonio – who led all scorers with four goals and five points – tallied two goals in the period’s final 38 seconds.
Ithaca scored the first three goals of the second half to cut Hamilton’s lead to 10-7 9:10 into the period, but Hamilton retook control with a goal 1:42 later and held the Bombers to just three shots over the game’s final 20:50.
D’Antonio raised her career totals to 162 points and 112 goals; she finishes 10th and 12th, respectively, on the program’s all-time lists. Brady and Margaret Gabriel both scored three goals and Emily Brodsky contributed three assists.
Ithaca was led by Ally Runyon, who scored three goals, including two in the first 5:04 to help the Bombers to a 3-0 lead. D’Antonio and Ithaca’s Natalie Lang ’15 traded goals on consecutive possessions and Gabriel kicked off the Continentals’ 9-0 run with a goal 11:11 into the half.
