New Haven Athletics | April 24, 2014 No. 4 New Haven suffers narrow loss to top-ranked LIU Post 14-13 Share WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- In a non-conference showdown, nationally-ranked No. 4 New Haven suffered a 14-13 loss to No. 1 LIU Post at Kayo Field. Corinne Fisher led all scorers with five goals, while Kathryn Campbell tallied six total points. Campbell added three draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Corinne Fisher contributed two draw controls, one ground ball and one caused turnover. Corinner Fisher was red hot, connected on all five of her shots on the afternoon. Nicole McKee tallied three goals with three draw controls and Courtney Ackland chipped in with two goals and one assist for the Blue and Gold. Additionally, Marissa Fisher contributed a goal with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Maya Szymanski rounded out scoring with an assist. LIU Post was led by Jackie Sileo with seven points off six assists and one goal. Her favorite target was Katie Rotan who received the ball from Sileo for each of her goal tallies. In the net, Marissa McDermott suffered her first loss of the season with four saves. The Pioneer's Katie Hannan stopped three shots in her 15th win of the season. The game was very closely throughout and the statistical comparison is tight as well. The Pioneers led 14-12 in ground balls and 15-14 in draw controls. UNH turned the ball over one more time than the Pioneers (14-13), but committed fewer fouls (33-25). The game was tied an amazing nine different times, with the lead changing hands five times. Just 51-seconds into the opening half, LIU Post jumped out to the game's first lead when Rotan netted her first off a one-time pass from Sileo. Corinne Fisher followed by scoring the Chargers' first two goals at the 28:27 and 23:56 marks. The back-and-forth momentum continued as the Pioneers went on a 3-0 run for the next three minutes to regain the lead and take a 4-2 advantage. Ackland netted a pair of unassisted goals in a 54-second stretch to knot the game at 4-4 with just under 19 minutes remaining in the first half. The teams again exchanged goals and the game was tied 5-5 at 17:14. LIU Post scored the next two before Marissa Fisher sunk the Chargers' final goal of the first half to bring the score to 7-6 in favor of the Pioneers at the break. In the first 2:22 of the second half, New Haven turned a halftime deficit into an 8-7 lead with two more from Corinne Fisher. The next tie of the game came at 8-8 when Morgan Chiarenza scored her only goal of the afternoon at the 25:32 mark. Campbell and Rotan exchanged goals before UNH scored two consecutive to take an 11-9 lead with 22:06 left in the second half. Two more Pioneer goals evened the game again at 11-11. Corinne Fisher's final score of the game came from Campbell with 14:04 left and then McKee was fed by Campbell for a 13-11 UNH lead at 12:51. LIU Post scored the game's final two goals, including the game winner from Stefani Vagelatos with 27-second remaining.
