NCAA.com launches event apps for 2014 Men’s, Women’s Final Four experiences

NCAA.com, managed by Turner Sports, is providing college basketball fans with a comprehensive, interactive guide to the NCAA Men’s Final Four in North Texas and the NCAA Women’s Final Four in Nashville, Tenn., with the launch of new event-based apps available for download via the App Store and Google Play. NCAA Final Four North Texas app presented by AT&T and Women’s Final Four Nashville will serve as pocket guides for those attending the events in either city with schedule information, interactive maps, news, concert lineups, ticket information, social features and more.

Additionally, NCAA.com will feature micro-sites for fans attending the Men’s Final Four (www.ncaa.com/finalfour) or the Women’s Final Four (www.ncaa.com/womensfinalfour). Each site will include a variety of news and information including fan events, venue information, concert lineups and local festivities, as well as local city highlights, information and AT&T free Wi-Fi locations throughout the North Texas area.

This year’s NCAA Men’s Final Four national semifinals will air on TBS, marking the first time in the event’s 76-year history the event will be televised on cable network. It will also be the first time the Final Four is presented across three networks with the traditional game coverage on TBS and Teamcasts for team-specific telecasts offered on TNT and truTV. NCAA March Madness Live will also offer live streaming of the game from all three vantage points. The men’s national championship will be broadcast on CBS for the 33rd consecutive year.

The NCAA Men’s Final Four North Texas App presented by AT&T will include:
•    AT&T Final Four Photo Hunt – a photo scavenger hunt around North Texas with a chance to win prizes including an autographed guitar from country singer Jason Aldean (subject to official rules, available on the app);
•    Coke Zero NCAA Social Arena – a forum to extend the conversation surrounding the Final Four games, fans can follow @FinalFour tweets, Facebook posts and Instagram. Fans can also participate in the social commentary by using the hashtag #FinalFour;
•    Daily Event Schedule – providing fans with directions, maps and lists of all the weekend’s festivities including Bracket Town™, March Madness Music Festival™, Final Four Friday® and more;
•    Interactive Map – venue specific information, along with details on fan gatherings and merchandise outlets in the city;
•    Tickets & Merchandise – an opportunity to purchase event tickets and team merchandise through the app.

Features of the NCAA Women’s Final Four App Nashville include:
•    Daily Event Schedule – providing fans with directions, maps and lists of all the weekend’s festivities including Tourney Town;
•    Interactive Map – venue specific information, along with details on fan gatherings and merchandise outlets in the city;
•    Tickets & Merchandise – an opportunity to purchase event tickets and team merchandise through the app.
In addition to the Final Four apps and microsites, NCAA.com will continue to provide exclusive March Madness content throughout the Final Four via NCAA March Madness Live as well as editorial coverage, score updates, real-time game highlights, postgame photo galleries, news conferences and more.

NCAA Division I Council modernizes rules for coaching limits

The Division I Council took steps to modernize a number of rules Wednesday, including approving adjustments to transfer waiver guidelines, modifying personnel rules across several sports and formally eliminating the requirement for standardized test scores in initial eligibility.
