DII Festival by the numbers

Winter championships are almost upon us, and with championships comes the Division II Festival. This year more than 1,000 student-athletes will travel to Birmingham, Ala. to compete in five championships from March 7 to 11. To get ready for this exciting event, here are a few numbers to know heading into the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship Festival:

NCAA DI Council approves moving fall championships to the spring

The Division I Council approved a package of proposals to move the 2020 fall championships to the spring of 2021. Brackets will be filled at 75 percent capacity.

DI Council extends recruiting dead period

The Division I Council extended the recruiting dead period through Jan. 1. The Council has been reviewing the dead period on a regular basis since April. A dead period precludes all in-person recruiting.

NCAA DI Council approves civic engagement legislation that includes Election Day

Division I student-athletes will not practice and compete, among other countable athletically related activities, on the first Tuesday after Nov. 1 every year, including the upcoming Election Day on Nov. 3.
