Wisconsin-Whitewater claimed the 2012 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) wrestling title at UW-Whitewater’s Williams Center on Sunday. The Warhawks secured the 13th first-place trophy in program history with 108.5 points. UW-La Crosse, the 14-time defending champion, placed second with 96 points.

Wake Forest head coach Tom Walter and outfielder Kevin Jordan reflect on their special bond one year after Walter helped save Jordan’s life by donating a kidney.


Arkansas State won its second tournament of the year, defeating Central Missouri and Vanderbilt on the final day of competition at the Holiday Classic hosted by Alabama A&M on Sunday. The victory was the seventh consecutive time A-State finished third or better in a tournament this season.

Men’s Lacrosse

Matthew Mackrides scored the game-winning goal with two seconds remaining in overtime to propel 20th-ranked Penn State to a 4-3 win against No. 2 Notre Dame at Arlotta Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The victory marked Penn State's first against the Fighting Irish since a 10-9 overtime win in 2002.

Vermont won its second consecutive EISA Championship, piling up 955 points. Dartmouth followed in second place with 848 points and Middlebury and New Hampshire tied for third with 724.5 points. The Catamounts capture the EISA crown for the 32nd time in the program's history.

No. 17 Louisiana-Lafayette finished the weekend with a perfect 5-0 record at the NFCA Leadoff Classic after a 6-1 victory against Winthrop on Sunday afternoon at E.C. Moore Softball Complex. DePaul also went 5-0 and was named the Classic champion on the basis of a tiebreaker.

Indoor Track & Field

Wartburg won its seventh men’s title in 10 years and remained the only program to win a women’s title as the 2012 IIAC championships wrapped up Saturday. The Wartburg men totaled 210.5 points to outdistance defending champion Central College by 28.5 points. The Wartburg women scored 317 points to destroy the previous scoring of 276 set by the Knights at the 2009 Championship. Runner-up Loras had 82.5 points.

Water Polo

No. 3 UCLA won the UC Irvine Invitational championship match with a 5-4 victory against No. 1 Stanford, handing the Cardinal its first loss of the season. The Bruins (12-1) advanced to the title match earlier in the day by defeating No. 2 USC 8-7 scoring four goals in the final quarter to overcome a 7-4 deficit.
