Air Force and TCU receive public reprimands for rifle

2018 Rifle Selection Show

INDIANAPOLIS — Air Force and TCU each received a public reprimand, fine and suspension after a misapplication of the standard-match format at the 2018 National Collegiate men’s and women’s rifle qualifier in which they participated.

The NCAA Men’s and Women’s Rifle Committee reviewed the behavior and issued the penalties.

“The protocol for the NCAA qualifier matches is clear, and it is up to the head coaches to make sure it is followed,” said Melissa Mulloy-Mecozzi, committee chair and current head coach at MIT. “The committee was disappointed with the action of the coaches, but didn’t want to penalize the student-athletes further.”

The penalties:

  • The head coaches of the institutions are suspended from all official activities at the 2018 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Rifle Championships, including, but not limited to, practice, meetings, banquet, competition and awards ceremonies. Also, the head coaches are not allowed to attend the championships as a spectator.
  • A public reprimand.
  • No reimbursement of travel and per diem for the 2018 championships.
