FELLSMERE, Fla. – No. 3 Nova Southeastern captured its second consecutive Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Rowing Championship and fifth conference title in the last six years Saturday. The NSU team took Canal 54 by storm, scoring 20 points.

Barry finished second with 11 points, followed by Rollins with 10 and Tampa at nine points.

The day began with a pair of timed trials in the Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 events. The NSU Varsity 8 finished eight seconds better of the five-team field with a time of 7:05. Barry (7:13) finished second, while Florida Tech (7:20), Rollins (7:47) and Tampa (8:19) rounded out the remaining three, respectively.

NSU also captured the Varsity 4 timed trial, placing first with a showing of 7:54. The Sharks’ exhibition four followed at 7:59, then Tampa at 8:15, Rollins at 8:19 and Barry at 8:37.

Heading into the Varsity 4 Petite Finals, the race times slowed due to stronger headwinds in the mid-morning hours. NSU’s exhibition four finished at 8:20.6, but Barry’s four claimed fourth-place based on their finish in the time trials earlier in the day. NSU went on to win the Varsity 4+ Grand Final in a time of 8:12.30. Tampa followed at 8:41.10, while Rollins finished third clocking a time of 8:58.10.

Rollins and Tampa faced each other in the Varsity 8 Petite Final, with the Tars finishing at 8:08.70, earning six points, while the Spartans clocked a time of 8:25.00 to earn three points. Nova Southeastern solidified its 2012 Florida Blue SSC Championship with a time of 7:22.60 to win the Varsity 8+ Grand Final. Barry finished second at 7:33.00, while Florida Tech finished at 7:48.80 for third.
