Fifth-ranked Wellesley tops No. 1 Williams and No. 3 William Smith

HADLEY, Mass. -- Fifth-ranked Wellesley had a strong day of racing on the Connecticut River on Sunday, with the Blue picking up wins against top-ranked Williams and third-ranked William Smith.

The Blue varsity boat finished the course in a time of 6:05.49, ranking second behind only Division I Massachusetts (6:02.24). The Blue finished ahead of William Smith (6:06.82), Williams (6:08.63) and UNH (6:32.15).

Wellesley nabbed a win in the novice race, finishing first among four boats. The Blue recorded a time of 6:23.22, finishing ahead of William Smith (6:26.08), Williams (6:33.01), and UMass (6:49.49).

In the second varsity eight race, the Blue ranked fourth overall, third against DIII competition. UMass topped the field with a 6:09.65, followed by Williams (6:16.79), William Smith (6:18.73), Wellesley (6:31.31) and UNH (6:43.51).

Wellesley also raced a four, taking third overall. UMass won the race in 6:52.0, followed by Williams (6:55.32) and Wellesley (7:31.56).
