No. 2 Ohio State claims seven wins at Big Ten Challenge

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Second-ranked Ohio State swept competition at the Big Ten Challenge on Saturday morning at Lake MacBride in Iowa City, Iowa, claiming seven wins against No. 19 Louisville, Indiana and Iowa.

Racing opened with the first varsity eight, where the crew of Aina Cid Centelles, Elodie Ravera -- Scarramozzino, Eelkje Miedema, Ashley Bauer, Meghan Birkbeck, Catherine Shields, Holly Norton, Claire-Louise Bode and coxswain Victoria Lazur crossed the line in 6:33.70 to place first ahead of Indiana (6:38.60), Louisville (6:45.40) and Iowa (6:54.0) and remain perfect on the season.

The second varsity eight followed, notching the second Buckeye win of the day in a time of 6:42.40. The crew of Daphne Socha, Chloe Meyer, Nicole Becks, Katie Beletskaya, Katie King, Lauren Eckles, Stephanie Williams, Taylore Urban and coxswain Alex Sawatzki placed 7.4 seconds ahead of second-place Indiana (6:49.70), 15.2 seconds ahead of third-place Louisville (6:58.0) and 16.2 seconds in front of fourth-place Iowa (6:59.0).

Next, the first varsity four of Victoria Langwasser, Anne Dietrich, Sarah Peffley, Anne Fruth and coxswain Sami Jurofsky posted a time of 7:28.80 to earn a victory over Louisville, who placed second in 7:34.20, Indiana who placed third in 7:36.70 and Iowa who rounded out the teams in fourth with a time of 7:41.40.

Varsity racing continued with the second varsity four of Sarah Kessler, Audrianna Penza, Anna Gackowski, Kelsey Albrinck and coxswain Sarah Asad, which earned its fourth victory of the season after notching first place in a time of 7:55.20. Louisville placed second after crossing the line in 8:05.90, while Iowa and Indiana earned times of 8:09.20 and 8:24.70 to finish third and fourth, respectively.

The first novice eight broke up varsity racing, sounding the horn in 7:13.0 to tally its first win of the season. The boat of Lindsey Steinbauer, Allison Baker, Emily Markham, Ana Sinicariello, MaryClare Stannard, Kelsey Hoehn, Samantha Rhodes, Sarah Davis and coxswain Danielle Figliuolo finished ahead of Louisville (7:14.50), Indiana (7:16.20) and Iowa (7:25.90).

Ohio State concluded varsity competition with its sixth win of the day. The third varsity four of Anna Lind, Sytske Miedema, Bridget Verdeyen, Jillian Getz and coxswain Meghan Mahoney claimed first-place with a time of 8:03.50, 15.1 seconds ahead of Louisville (8:18.60) and 26.3 seconds ahead of Iowa (8:29.70).

In the last race of the day, the second novice eight claimed its first victory of the season. Alina Tiber, Jamie Kuhlman, Leila Salhi, Casey Schaffer, Grace Moeller, Allyson Rudolph, Erica Yoder, Samantha Peterson and coxswain Danielle Macklin posted a time of 7:38.70 to defeat Iowa who finished second in 7:43.30.
