No. 1 Wellesley defeats No. 11 Tufts, falls to No. 3 Bates and No. 6 Wesleyan

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- No. 1 Wellesley had a fantastic day of racing on the Malden River on Saturday morning. The Blue competed against No. 3 Bates, No. 6 Wesleyan, and No. 11 Tufts.

Wellesley's varsity eight stayed undefeated this spring, winning a pair of races this morning. The Blue opened the day with a 7:04.1 to 7:18.1 win against Tufts in the first heat to advance to the grand final. In the grand final, the Blue bested Wesleyan, recording a 6:52.4 to Wesleyan's 7:04.7.

In second varsity racing, Wellesley opened with a win over Tufts, recording a 7:18.0 to the Jumbos 7:25.7. In the grand final, the Blue improved on last week's time, but fell to Bates, 7:03.5 to 7:37.7.

Wellesley's third varsity boat also reached the grand finals, opening with a 7:5-7:57.8 win against Tufts. Bates topped the Blue in the final race, though, recording a 7:20.6 to Wellesley's 7:47.2.

In the novice races, Wellesley fell to Wesleyan to open the day, as the Cardinals topped the Blue, 7:28.3 to 7:40.2. In the petite final, the Blue cruised past Tufts, 7:39.9 to 8:33.6.
