No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Virginia successful at ACC/Big 10 Challenge

  Ohio State's first varsity eight remains perfect on the season with a 6-0 record.

BELLEVILLE LAKE, Mich. -- Third-ranked Ohio posted eight wins while No. 4 Virginia won nine races at the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Saturday. The Buckeyes claimed six victories over No. 9 Notre Dame in the morning session while the Cavaliers took five of six against No. 10 Michigan.

The first novice eight claimed the first Buckeye win of the day after crossing the line in 7 minutes, 19.50 seconds to defeat Notre Dame (7:41.47) by 21 seconds.

The third varsity four earned its second win of the season with a victory against two Notre Dame crews.

The Buckeye second varsity four continued the win streak for the team, picking up its fifth win of the season, defeating the Irish by 20 seconds.

In first varsity four competition, the crew notched a victory over Notre Dame (7:43.75) in a time of 7:34.40.

The second varsity eight notched its fourth win of the season against Notre Dame, posting a time of 6:36.0, while the Irish placed second in 6:48.27.

In the final race of the morning session, the Buckeye first varsity eight sounded the horn in 6:25.30 for a first-place finish.

Virginia picked up victories against the Wolverines in the Second Varsity Eight (6:42.4-6:45.9), Varsity Four (7:25.8-7:42.55), Second Varsity Four (7:29.3-7:42.42), Third Varsity Four (7:41.3-7:43.77) and Third Varsity Eight/Novice Eight (7:02.4-7:15.96), but were defeated in a close Varsity Eight race, 6:25.7-6:27.2.

In the afternoon session, Ohio State and Virginia faced off with UVa winning the first four races, including the V4 (7:21.1-7:28.5), 2V4 (7:16.7-7:20.01), 3V4 (7:31.8-7:33.93) and 3V8/N8 (6:53.1-7:03.59). The Buckeyes were victorious in the V8 (6:21.3-6:25.91) and 2V8 (6:32.9-6:42.17).
