STOWE, Vt. – The University of New Hampshire ski team amassed 124 points in Sunday’s Nordic races to finish with 735.5 points overall and in third place at the UVM Winter Carnival, which was held Feb. 6-8.

UNH, which led after the first day of competition and entered Sunday in second place, garnered 75 points in the men’s 15K classic race and 59 points in the women’s 10K classic at the Trapp Family Lodge.

Dartmouth College won the carnival with 919 points and was followed by the University of Vermont (798.5 points).

Steven Bedard (Cheshire, Mass.) led the men’s contingent. He crossed the finish line in 49 minutes, 0.7 seconds to finish 21st and lead a quintet of Wildcats bunched between 21st—29th place. Michael Lessard (Greene, Maine) completed the course in 49:33.4 for 24th place, and teammate Dylan McGuffin (Concord, N.H.) was next to cross the finish line at 49:37.1 to complete UNH’s scoring in the event.

Daniel Guiney (Park City, Utah) took 28th place in 49:51.7 and Harrison Harb (Contoocook, N.H.) followed in 29th at 50:10.1.

Marlijne Cook (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) recorded the top ‘Cat effort of the day. She finished in 17th place overall with a time of 40:55.3 on the 10K course. Sarah Wright (Wyoming, Minn.) was the net ‘Cat across the line in 43:04.3 for 26th place. Danielle Baron (Gilford, N.H.) finished six minutes later to take 34th place, just 2.3 seconds ahead of teammate Anya Caldwell Bean (Wolfeboro, N.H.) in 36th place.

New Hampshire returns to action Feb. 13-14 at the Dartmouth Carnival. The alpine events will be held at the Dartmouth Ski Way, while the Nordic races are at Oak Hill.
