SIU Edwardsville 3, Tusculum College 2

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. --- Sixth-ranked SIU Edwardsville scored the first three goals of the match and had to hold on at the end to defeat No. 14 Tusculum College 3-2 Saturday night at Korte Stadium in a NCAA Division II quarterfinal men's soccer match. The Cougars (18-2-2) now advance to the Final Four, where they will meet UNC Pembroke, Dec. 3 in Wichita Falls, Texas. The Pioneers' remarkable postseason run comes to an end as they finish the year at 17-3-2.

SIUE's John Matthews accounted for the Cougars first two goals, coming in the 25th and 30th minute. Tim Collico knocked home the eventual match-winner at the 42:04 mark to give SIUE a 3-0 lead.

But the Pioneers carried some momentum into the intermission as 52 seconds after Collico's score, Gareth Williams found the back of the net from 25 yards out as TC cut the deficit to 3-1.

It would remain that way until halftime and for most of the second stanza until St. Louis, Mo. native Justin Vanmatre pulled Tusculum within one with his second goal of the season, coming with 1:45 left in the match. The Pioneers got two good shots to produce the equalizer, but the Cougars held on for the win.
