Dowling 1, Franklin Pierce 0

OAKDALE, N.Y. - The Dowling College Soccer Team defeated the Franklin Pierce Ravens (16-6-2) 1-0 in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight Final on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Lions will now travel to Wichita Falls, Texas as they earned their third NCAA Final Four berth in the past four seasons with the victory. The team will take on the winner of the Seattle/Incarnate Word match in the NCAA Final Four opening round on December 3rd.

The Dowling defense stole the show against Pierce as they did not allow a shot on goal over the entire first half. Dowling (17-1-5) pressured the Ravens throughout the contest, but were unable to get on the board until leading scorer Morten Jensen (Tanager, Norway) pushed a shot by Pierce keeper James Thorpe and broke the scoreless tie.

The defense was tested over the final three minutes of play but survived three Ravens corner kicks to preserve the 1-0 advantage. Golden Lion goalkeeper Neal Kitson (Little Neck, NY) stopped two of five Franklin Pierce shots in the second frame to help secure Dowlings ninth shutout of the season.
