TULSA, Okla, - Jose Parada netted his seventh goal of the season on Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship giving the fifth-ranked Golden Hurricane a 1-0 win over UMKC. Tulsa earned its 16th win on the season, the most in school history, for a 16-3-3 mark, while the Kangaroos fell to 10-7-3.

"We created a lot of chances in the first half, but their goalkeeper came up big," Head Coach Tom McIntosh said. "When we went into the lockerroom we knew we just had to keep doing what we were doing, which was swinging the ball wide and putting UMKC under pressure. I am really proud of this team for staying patient and disciplined, and not giving away a counter-attack goal."

Parada's goal was scored at the 79:53 mark off a pass from Eric DeFreitas from three yards out on the right side. His goal kept TU's now 16-game unbeaten streak and 9-0 home streak alive.

The Golden Hurricane had 23 shots in the first half, compared to UMKC's two attempts, but went into the break tied 0-0. In the second half, TU had seven of its 11 shots on goal, and finished with a 34-6 advantage in shots and an 11-1 lead in shots on goal.

Tyrel Lacey logged all 90 minutes in goal and picked up one save for 73 on the year. He now has a .57 goals-against average and a .859 saves percentage, as well as eight of Tulsa's 10 shutouts this season.

The Golden Hurricane will take on seventh-seeded and second-ranked Creighton (14-1-2) on Tuesday night beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Omaha, Nebraska. This will be TU's fourth second-round game in five tournament appearances, as TU has a 4-4-1 all-time NCAA record.
