ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Jake Stacy and Perica Marosevic each scored second-half goals to give host Michigan a two-goal lead while Chris Leer scored a late goal for the Aggies as the Wolverines beat UC Davis 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon in the second round of the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championships.

The Wolverines, who had a first-round bye, improved to 13-5-3 and will face the winner of Indiana and Saint Louis in the third round. The Aggies, playing in their second consecutive national championship tournament and advancing to the second round for the first time, finished their season 13-5-4.

The contest was played in Ann Arbor, Mich., which was enveloped by 34-degree temperatures and light snow showers.

The teams played a scoreless first half before Stacy put Michigan on the scoreboard early in the second, knocking in a header off an assist from Mauro Fuzetti in the 50th minute. It was Stacy's eighth goal of the year. Marosevic put the Wolverines up by a pair of goals, scoring an unassisted goal in the 67th minute.

Trailing 2-0, UC Davis fought back, however, getting to within a goal late in the game when Leer - who had two goals in the Aggies' opening-round win against Denver on Saturday - tallied his fourth goal of the year off an assist from senior Dylan Curtis in the 88th minute. The Aggies, though, were unable to get the tying goal in the final moments.

Michigan outshot UC Davis 16-6 with Aggie goalie Ryan McCowan posting seven saves.

The Aggies enjoyed another outstanding season in 2008, reaching as high as No. 7 in the national rankings.
