IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 14 seed UC Irvine men's soccer team (15-1-6) defeated Cal Poly 3-0 Tuesday night in a NCAA Tournament second round match Anteater Stadium.

Sophomore Amani Walker (San Diego/Francis Parker HS) found junior Irving Garcia (San Luis, Ariz./Yavapai College) at the top of the box on the left side as Garcia found the net to put UCI up 1-0 in the 59th minute. Garcia gave the `Eaters a 2-0 lead in the 71st minute as he capitalized on a ball intended for the keeper that was sent wide and Garcia was able to knock it into an empty net. The match was stopped in the 73rd minute as Derek Brown of Cal Poly was injured and needed medical attention causing a 25 break in play. Senior Rafael Macedo (South Gate/Salesian HS) took a cross from sophomore Spencer Thompson (Ahwatukee, Ariz./Mountain Pointe HS) in the 74th minute and put UCI up 3-0.

Freshman keeper Andrew Fontein (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) had five saves as he picked up his fifth shutout of the season. Keeper Eric Branagan-Franco had four saves for the Mustangs.

The match was played during random bursts of torrential downpours and was played in front of a sold out crowd of 2,500. This is the first ever sellout in Anteater Stadium history.
